For fucks sake! This visual novel is great and all, for real. But why do VN protagonists always have to be whiny little useless shitheads, WHY?? It annoys me to no end!

People don't have empathy for these characters because, that would mean seeing themselves as weak. They'd rather see themselves as a calm and collected badazz. That is what makes cliche anime isekai work.
OP MC have their own weaknesses. No one will empathize with characters that put their own view of themselves under fire. Overly merciful Op are pussies. We want to be someone who would pull the trigger. Mc with abusive friends or partners are called simp. Even though abusive relationships are a real problem and you would never say that to domestic abuse victim.
In short, mixed in with legitimate opinions are people who have refused to empathize with characters because, it makes them uncomfortable. Thus they are uninformed.
